PUBLIC EDUCATION PARTY OF AUSTRALIA

THE PUBLIC EDUCATION PARTY OF AUSTRALIA WAS FORMED AT AN INAUGURAL MEETING AT BEELBANGERA, NSW, ON 21 AUGUST 2012 .

The PEPA is dedicated to the principle that every child in Australian schools deserves a high quality education.

The Public Education Party of Australia (PEPA) is a grass-roots political party whose goal is to restore the principle that all public funds spent by Australian federal, state and territory governments on school education in Australia should be spent on public schools.

The PEPA rejects the concept that the Constitution of Australia allows public funds to be spent on primary and secondary schools other than public schools in Australia.

The PEPA recognises the right of all parents to choose to enrol their children in non-government schools but believes that such a choice bears with it the responsibility of the parents to fund that choice from their own resources.

The PEPA recognises that a transition period of reducing funding for non-government schools and a referendum may be needed to achieve this goal.

The PEPA reject the Politics of Greed espoused by many politicians over the past fifty years and denounces the wedge politics used by various politicians over many years to split our Australian citizenry and society.  The slur of “practising a politics of envy” hurled in the faces of supporters of public education over many years is rejected and we assert the following reality.  “Envy follows greed; greed does not follow envy”.

      Gday Glen!

Thanks for the contact. I’m a retired Central School principal and public education activist. I am a Life Member of The Secondary School Principals’ Council mainly from my work on bEhalf of Centrals. Also a member of the PETA during my teaching career.
For many years I have been trying to convince heavies in the public ed area that the only way to get any action to counter the funding of private schools was by setting up a political party to field Senate candidates in all states. The connections to major parties by many of these people has been a major stumbling block. I have always been outspoken at Federation meetings and principals’ meetings and some people don’t appreciate this. But not speaking out and toeing the party lines has totally failed to stop the rot.
Therefore, about 4 years ago a very small group set up the PEPA.
Due mainly to my lack of discipline in getting into Facebook etc and connecting with people like this it has been a struggle with almost no success. A couple of health issues haven’t helped but I’m determined that the PEPA will get up now Se have been resolved.
Today’s letter in the Herald is the first time they have accepted my “PEPA Convenor” tag. I’m hoping it will lead to an avalanche of responses!
Please feel free to contact as many friends as you like to encourage them to join. If you read the website you will notice that the 500 members requirement is what needs to be managed urgently. You never know when another federal election will be held. I’d also like to see Upper House reps in the state parliaments where there is one. I strongly believe that the public education element of our community can be hugely influential in politics in Australia.
Please feel free to call me on 0429 782 499, my personal phone and I’m happy to take any enquiries on that number. The PEPA mobile number has been down for a while but will be back in the next couple of days.
      Regards
      Kevin Farrell

Thanks, Kevin. I saw your letter and thus the email.
I retired from Berala PS in May last year having been ‘boss’ at Auburn, Punchbowl and Stanwell Park over the years.
I have been looking at starting a NSW PEP with a colleague to target the NSW MLC at the next election. To stand candidates at the NSW election, 750 party members are required.
Would be very happy to work with you to achieve this end as we have a similar ideology.
        Cheers, Glen.
